A Holy Service

There are two words that I would like to simplify in this article, one is the word “holy,” which means being set apart. The other word is “service,” which means doing something on behalf of others with the intention to please. These are very important definitions when it comes to serving the Lord, because this is what He requires from us, the book of Romans 12:1-2 explicitly declares the truth. The Bible states, God is holy which is why He wants holy people.

There are two things I would like to emphasize about the word holiness, one is the marvelous work of God for He is the one who set apart people for His name. He is the one who initiated this process of making people holy, no human being could ever reach that level if God did not allow it or initiate the process in the first place. In other words, He is the one who made us worthy from the very beginning. Romans 8:29 states, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called; and home he called, them he also justified; and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”

The other factor in making this goal a reality, is our efforts in keeping our holiness. We must strive to keep our calling, our justification and out faith intact ready for the master’s service. Three things that will help us preserve our holiness unto the Lord that include: our constant prayer, our deep knowledge of God’s words and finally, our consistent fellowship with God’s people. You will find these devotions difficult in the beginning, but let us keep on doing it anyway. Somewhere in the avenues of our efforts, we will find the grace of God and these devotions are no longer difficult to do, they will become their resting place where we let our weary souls to rest in the presence of God. It may not happen soon as you start the secret of our spiritual routine, but it will happen eventually. Just remember, the secret of our spiritual success is not just doing the things we want to do or love to do, but also doing the things we do not want to do, but it has to be done. This is the will of God for all of us.
